FURminator grooming tools for cats and dogs
FURminator makes deShedding tools, brushes, combs, nail care and coat washes for cats and dogs. The whole range works on one principle: reach the dead undercoat and lift it out, without cutting the topcoat the way a stripping blade or clipper does. PeekAPaw carries the deShedding tools in both coat lengths and all body sizes, plus the consumables that go with them.
Size by your pet, coat length by the coat. The Undercoat deShedding Tool comes in body-size options (small, medium and large for dogs; small and medium/large for cats) and in short-hair and long-hair versions. They are not interchangeable. The long-hair edge has longer teeth so it can pass through the topcoat before it reaches the undercoat; run it over a short-coated dog and it barely engages. The short-hair edge on a long coat does the opposite, catching and pulling. Check the weight band on the pack before you order.
It is a deShedder, not a dematter. The stainless steel edge is made for hair that has already shed and is sitting loose in the coat. Pulling it through a mat drags the skin. Work mats out first, or have a groomer take them off, then use the tool for maintenance. Weekly is the manufacturer's guidance; repeated daily passes over the same patch can leave the skin sore.
Single-coated breeds get little from it. Poodles, Maltese, Bichons and similar coats have no undercoat to remove. A curry comb, or the Grooming Rake for dense double coats, is a better fit than the deShedding edge.
The rest of the range. The Sensitive Areas Tool has a small curved head for the face, ears, paws and belly, where the full-size tool is too harsh. The Bathing Brush is a dispenser: you fill the handle with shampoo or conditioner and it releases as you scrub, so it pairs with the washes rather than replacing a deShedding tool. The deShedding shampoo and conditioner are meant to be used before you groom, to loosen the coat; the Sensitive Skin pair is a separate, paraben-free formula for itchy or dry skin. The 473ml bottles suit a home routine and the 3.78L is a groomer's size. Nail grinder bands are consumable and sold separately, so add a pack if you use the grinder regularly.
