Hill's Perfect Digestion is one of the newer lines in the Science Diet range, built around gut health rather than life stage or breed size. There are four products here: Perfect Digestion Adult dry dog food, Perfect Digestion Adult wet dog food with chicken and added vegetables, Perfect Digestion Adult dry cat food, and Perfect Digestion Adult 7+ dry cat food.

The recipe is what makes this line distinct. Hill's uses ActivBiome+, its own prebiotic blend, alongside whole grain oats and pumpkin, with beet pulp and citrus pulp as fibre sources and a mix of whole grains including barley, brown rice and oats. Hill's positions it as nutrition to support digestive wellbeing and a healthy microbiome - so the target is the everyday digestion of an otherwise healthy pet, feeding the gut bacteria rather than acting on a problem.

This is not the same as Hill's Prescription Diet i/d, and the two get confused often. i/d is a vet-authorised therapeutic diet for diagnosed gastrointestinal disease; Perfect Digestion is a standard retail food any adult dog or cat can eat. We do not stock the Prescription Diet line at all - if your vet has recommended i/d, you will need to get it through them. If your pet has ongoing loose stools, vomiting or weight loss, that is a vet conversation rather than a food swap.

Choosing within the four is simple enough: match the species, then the age. Adult covers dogs and cats from one year, and the cat range adds a 7+ version for older cats. The wet dog recipe is worth considering if your dog drinks little or you want to mix wet through dry. As with any change of diet, move across gradually over about a week so the gut has time to adapt - switching abruptly can undo the point of a digestion-focused food.
