Hill's Science Diet senior dog food and senior cat food is split more finely than most brands manage, and that is the useful thing about this range. Rather than one blanket "senior" bag, Hill's changes the age threshold according to how fast the animal actually ages.

For dogs there are three thresholds. Large breed dogs move at 6+, standard-sized dogs at 7+, and small dogs are not moved to 11+ until much later, because small dogs age more slowly. So a Labrador and a Chihuahua of the same age can correctly be on completely different foods. For cats it is two steps: Adult 7+ and Adult 11+, with 7+ available as plain, Indoor, Hairball Control, Senior Vitality and Perfect Digestion.

Senior Vitality is its own line, not a relabelled 7+. Hill's builds it around a proprietary blend aimed at brain health, interaction, energy and vitality, alongside vitamin E and omega-6 for coat and easy-to-digest ingredients. If the concern is a dog or cat that has become quieter or less engaged rather than simply older, Senior Vitality is the one designed for that; if you just want age-appropriate nutrition, the plain 7+ recipe is the straightforward choice.

Between dogs and cats there are twenty senior products here across every format: dry food, cans, pouches and small dog mousse. On the dog side that includes Adult 7+ Senior, Senior Vitality, Small Paws 7+ and 11+, Small Bites 7+, 6+ Large Breed, plus 7+ cans and a Healthy Cuisine stew.
