Horslyx makes weatherproof vitamin and mineral licks in Cumbria, England. All six formulations share the same balancer base — vitamins, minerals and trace elements with biotin for hoof horn and zinc, copper and omega-3 for skin and coat — and then add something on top. Garlic and Mint are flavour variations of the Original. Mobility adds glucosamine and MSM, Respiratory adds menthol, eucalyptus and aniseed oil, and Digestion adds Actisaf live yeast and slippery elm.
Start with a 650g Mini. Horslyx rates a Mini at around three days for one horse, which makes it the cheap way to find out whether yours will take the flavour before you commit to a 5kg tub. Garlic in particular divides opinion.
The honest limitation of any lick is that you cannot control the dose. Intake varies horse to horse, so if you need a measured daily amount of glucosamine or a gut supplement, a weighed powder is the right tool and a lick is not. Where a lick wins is on a horse that picks powders out of the feed bin, or one out at grass with no hard feed at all.
The 5kg tubs sit in a Horslyx Holder so they stay off the floor. The 15kg paddock tub is a solid block in a heavy container — worth knowing before it arrives.
