Laucke Mills is a South Australian family milling business that has been making animal feed since 1899. The range runs from backyard poultry and aviary birds through to horses, sheep, goats, alpacas, pigs and pet rabbits — all milled in Australia from Australian grain. Bags are 20kg as a rule, with a few 10kg, 22kg and 30kg lines.
Choosing a poultry feed — the biggest mistake in a backyard flock is feeding layer calcium to birds that are not laying yet. Work through the stages: Red Hen Chick from day-old, Red Hen Pullet from six weeks, then a layer ration once the first eggs appear. Between the layer options, a grain blend like Red Hen Layer is more interesting for the birds but can be sorted through; a crumble like Red Hen Se17enteen or a micro pellet like Showbird Breeder MP means every bird gets the full mineral and vitamin ration.
Choosing a horse feed — the Equus range is graded by energy rather than by breed. Cool Horse & Pony is the low-key option for light work, Cool Plus steps it up without the fizz of grain, and Elite Breed 18 is for lactating mares and growing stock. Bran and pollard are mixing ingredients, not rations.
Bag weights and delivery — most of this range is a 20kg or heavier sack. Check the individual product page for delivery and pickup options before ordering, and plan vermin-proof storage: a 20kg bag lasts a small flock or a couple of rabbits a long time, and feed keeps far better in a sealed bin than in the bag.
