Petsmile is a US pet dental care brand. Its Professional Pet Toothpaste is built around a formula the brand calls Calprox, which works by dissolving the protein pellicle, the thin film on the teeth that plaque, bacteria and stains attach to. The toothpaste is listed as accepted by the VOHC (Veterinary Oral Health Council) for plaque and tartar control, is made in the USA and is free of BPA, silica, sulphates, parabens and gluten.
PeekAPaw stocks the toothpaste in Rotisserie Chicken, London Broil and Say Cheese flavours, in small and large tubes (Say Cheese in large only). To apply it there is the Professional Toothbrush, with a patented 45° dual-ended head of soft nylon bristles sized for dogs and cats, and the Applicator Swabs, a long wand with an ultra-soft tip that you rinse and reuse.
If your pet has never had its teeth cleaned, start with the swab or a dab of paste on your finger so they get used to the taste, then move to the brush. Petsmile toothpaste is made for daily brushing. It helps keep plaque from building up, but it will not remove hardened tartar that is already there; that needs a vet dental clean.
