Floor space, height and the animal you keep
Settle first whether your reptile lives on the ground or in the branches, because everything else follows. Terrestrial species such as bearded dragons, blue-tongues and most pythons use floor area, so a long, wide enclosure is worth more than a tall one; length also lets you set a warm end and a cool end, since a thermal gradient needs distance. Arboreal species climb, so height and vertical furniture matter more than footprint. Exo Terra Natural Terrariums and the Vista and Pro glass ranges come in several sizes, so choose the footprint against the adult size of the animal, not its size now.
