The Pet Project Australian Dog Treats
The Pet Project is an Australian-made treat range, and the 30 products here are mostly single-ingredient air dried meat: kangaroo, beef, lamb, goat, chicken and ocean fish, dried rather than baked into a biscuit. Alongside those sit a handful of soft treats, training treats and cookies. Almost everything is written for dogs; the Chicken Fillet is the one item labelled for cats and dogs both.
Choosing by how long it needs to last
Air dried chews vary enormously in how long a dog takes to get through them, and that is usually the real decision. The long-lasting end is the hard stuff — Beef Hooves, Goat Horn, Kangaroo Bone, Bully Sticks and Kangaroo Tendons all take serious work and suit a determined chewer that needs occupying. Hard chews are also the ones to supervise: very hard items can damage teeth on a heavy chewer, and every chew should be taken away once it shrinks to a size that could be swallowed whole. The middle group — Lamb Ears, Kangaroo Trachea Tube, Beef Tube, Spare Ribs, Kangaroo Tail Tips, Goat Trotters, Fish Twists — gives a decent session without lasting all evening. The quick end is the flat, snappable stuff: Beef Liver, Beef Liver Strips, Beef Strips, Beef Jerky, Kangaroo Jerky, Fish Fillets, Ocean Fish, Chicken Neck, Lamb Puffs and Shark Cartilage. These break into pieces easily, which makes them the practical choice for rewarding rather than occupying.
Training treats, cookies and yoghurt drops
Kangaroo Training Treats and Chicken Training Treats are the small, soft, high-value pieces you want for actual training — a dog needs to swallow a reward in a second and look back at you, which a hard chew cannot do. Peanut Butter Cookies, Carob Chip Cookies and Birthday Cake Cookies are the baked treats in the range, and the Yoghurt Drops 250g are the sweet-style reward. Carob is used instead of chocolate, which is not safe for dogs. Keep all of these to a small share of daily intake — treats are usually the reason a well-fed dog is putting on weight, and single-ingredient meat chews carry more calories than their size suggests.
