A newly filled pond has no bacterial colony, and the first fish you add produce ammonia with nowhere for it to go. Pond Start seeds that colony — concentrated nitrifying bacteria that settle onto rock, liner, gravel and filter media and convert ammonia and nitrite through to nitrate. It is equally the bottle to reach for after a filter clean or a big water change, when you have just washed a good part of the colony down the drain.
Available in 125ml, 250ml, 500ml and 1L. See the rest of the Animal Wellbeing range, or browse all Fish Supplies.
Benefits
- Colonises hard surfaces — establishes on rock, wood, substrate and filter media, not just in the water.
- Fish can go in after treatment — Animal Wellbeing states it is safe for immediate fish introduction once dosed.
- Rebuilds after maintenance — replaces the nitrifying population lost to a filter clean.
- Safe to overdose — the brand states overdosing will not harm pond inhabitants.
- Australian made — manufactured in Australia by Animal Wellbeing.
Ingredients
Demineralised water, concentrated nitrifying bacteria blend, natural stabilisers for pond conditions, preservation system, pH buffer compounds.
Directions for Use
Shake gently. New pond: Animal Wellbeing lists one entire bottle per 1000L of total pond volume — the label does not say which bottle size that refers to, so check it before dosing. Established pond: 1 capful (10ml) per 100L twice weekly. Allow 24–48 hours for colonisation and monitor ammonia and nitrite while the pond establishes.
Safety
For pond use only. Not for human consumption — keep out of reach of children and pets, and seek medical advice immediately if swallowed. Store below 25°C out of direct sunlight and use within 2–3 years of opening.
