Arboreal animals will not use a hide on the floor. A crested gecko, a day gecko or a tree frog spends its life above ground and treats the substrate as exposed, so a ground-level cave in a tall terrarium often sits empty while the animal sleeps pressed into a corner of the glass. The Canopy Cave solves that by mounting on the glass itself — an enclosed nest box up in the canopy, at the height the animal already wants to be.
One size (PT2870). It fixes with a self-adhesive clip, which is the main thing to think about before buying: the clip needs clean, dry glass and around thirty seconds of firm pressure to bond, it will not hold on a mesh panel or a textured foam background, and once it is placed you are committed to that spot. Cover is not optional for these species either — a second hide lower down, such as a Reptile Cave at the cooler end, gives the animal a temperature choice. Line it with forest moss for a moist nest, and run jungle vine up to it so the animal has a route. More in our Exo Terra collection.
Features
- Glass-mounted clip — puts the hide at canopy height instead of wasting it on the floor.
- Static-cling cover — darkens the interior against the glass, which is what makes an animal treat it as a nest rather than a shelf.
- Spyhole cling — peel back a small section to check on the animal without opening the terrarium or lifting the hide.
- Takes moss — designed around Exo Terra Forest Moss for a humid nesting or egg-laying chamber.
- Suits both setups — Exo Terra rates it for rainforest and desert terrariums alike.
Specifications
One size (PT2870). Exo Terra does not publish dimensions for the Canopy Cave, so we have not quoted any; shipping weight is 415g. Mounting: clean and dry the glass, position the clip with the backing still on and mark it, then remove the backing and press firmly for at least thirty seconds without trapping air.
Care
Lift the cave off the clip and scrub it under hot running water with a terrarium-only brush; replace the moss rather than washing it. Keep detergents and disinfectants off it unless every trace can be rinsed away, and dry the glass fully before remounting.
