The Croc Turtle Island is a floating crocodile-shaped ornament that doubles as a basking spot for small semi-aquatic animals. Exo Terra lists it for turtles, newts and salamanders and sells it simply as the Croc (PT3067). It floats, the back is textured for grip so a wet animal can get purchase on it, and a suction cup is included so it can be anchored to the glass instead of drifting into the filter intake. At 21 x 11 x 4cm the usable deck is small — this is a hatchling or juvenile piece, or a second haul-out in a tank that already has a main basking area. A grown slider or a Murray River turtle needs the Turtle Bank, which comes in decks up to 40.6cm and mounts on magnets.
Because it floats, it tracks the water level automatically, and because it is an ornament rather than a fixed shelf it can be moved or removed in seconds when you are cleaning. Put it under the basking lamp and UVB source, not in a shaded corner — a basking platform that never gets warm is just decor. For water maintenance in the same tank see the Turtle Habitat Cleaning Kit. The rest of the range is in our Exo Terra collection.
Features
- Floats and self-levels — the deck stays at the surface as the water level changes.
- Suction cup included — anchors it against the glass so it does not drift under the filter outflow.
- Easy-grip texture — a moulded surface a wet animal can climb rather than slide off.
- Doubles as a hide — the shape breaks up sightlines and gives a nervous animal somewhere to rest partly out of view.
- Supports thermoregulation and shedding — a dry surface under a heat source is what a semi-aquatic animal needs to warm up and shed cleanly.
