The Turtle Bank is a magnet-mounted floating basking platform for aquatic turtles. A pair of magnets clamps through the glass to hold it in a corner, and because the platform itself floats it self-levels — the submerged ramp stays at a usable angle whether you have just topped the tank up or it has dropped 3cm to evaporation. That is the main difference from a fixed shelf, and from the Croc Turtle Island, which is a small free-floating ornament anchored by a suction cup. Exo Terra does not publish a load rating for the Turtle Bank, so size it by the dry deck rather than by the turtle's weight: the animal should fit on the platform with room to turn around, and you should expect to step up a size as it grows.

Three sizes: Small 16.6 x 12.4 x 3.3cm, Medium 29.8 x 17.8 x 5.4cm, Large 40.6 x 24 x 7cm. Corner mounting is deliberate — it keeps the middle of the tank open for swimming. Position a basking lamp and a UVB source over the platform; a dry, warm haul-out is what makes shell shedding and thermoregulation work properly. For automated feeding in the same set-up, see the Automatic Turtle Feeder, and for water changes the Turtle Habitat Cleaning Kit. The rest of the range is in our Exo Terra collection.

Features

  • Magnetic mounting — magnets are included; they clamp through the glass wall, so hold depends on the glass thickness as well as on the size you choose.
  • Self-levelling float — the deck rises and falls with the water, so the ramp does not become a cliff between water changes.
  • Submerged access ramp — the turtle swims up rather than having to haul itself over an edge.
  • Corner placement — uses the dead space in a corner and leaves open water for swimming.
  • Sheltered underside — the space below the deck works as a hide, which lowers stress in an otherwise open tank.
  • Supports shedding — a properly dry basking surface is what lets scutes shed cleanly.
