The Desert Den is a low, ventilated plastic box — 36 x 21 x 13cm, with a hinged clear door set into the lid. It is a working tool rather than a display enclosure: quarantining a new arrival, getting an animal to the vet, rearing hatchlings, holding feeder insects, or parking a snake somewhere quiet during a clean-out. It is not a long-term home. There is no glass, no lighting, no UVB and no heating, and at 13cm tall there is no headroom for a basking lamp above the substrate, so nothing that needs a real thermal gradient should live in it permanently.
Exo Terra catalogues this box as the Faunarium X-Large (item PT2300); in Australia it is sold under the Desert Den name. It stacks with the rest of the plastic range, which matters once you keep more than one. A replacement door is available separately, and the taller boxes are on the Exo Terra Faunarium page. The full range is in our Exo Terra collection.
Features
- Transparent door in the lid — feed or mist without taking the whole lid off, which keeps a thirty-second job from turning into an escape.
- Side-angled ventilation slits — air moves across the box rather than only up through the top.
- Stackable — boxes sit on one another, so a quarantine or grow-on shelf takes up a single footprint.
- Smooth plastic throughout — washes and disinfects easily, which is the whole point of a quarantine box.
- Light enough to carry loaded — the practical reason it ends up being the transport box.
