The Star Cactus is the widest-spreading piece in Exo Terra's desert plant range, and at 23cm it is the largest of the four cacti we stock. It does the job a live succulent would do in an arid terrarium — breaking up open floor so an animal has a route across the enclosure that is not fully exposed — without any of the conditions a live succulent needs. The trade is real and worth stating: a replica takes no part in humidity cycling, adds no oxygen and will never fill out. In return it tolerates being climbed on, dug around and lit by direct UVB for as long as you keep it.
One size, 23cm, item code PT2982. Exo Terra does not publish spread or base diameter for its plant range, so height is the only dimension available. Pairs with the Barrel Cactus, the Saguaro Cactus and the Finger Cactus, over a Sand Mat Substrate floor; the rest of the range is in our Exo Terra collection.
Features
- Wide, low form — covers more floor than the upright cacti, which is what a ground-dwelling desert species actually uses.
- Zero maintenance — no light, water or feeding, and nothing that dies back when conditions swing.
- Takes direct UVB and basking heat — can be placed in the hottest, brightest part of the enclosure.
- Rinses clean — lift out, rinse, replace; no soil to disturb.
- Suits quarantine set-ups — usable in bare enclosures that need to be stripped and disinfected between animals.
