Calcium carbonate - limestone flour - is the standard straight calcium source for correcting a ration that is heavy in bran, pollard or cereal grain. Those feeds are high in phosphorus, and horses fed a lot of them end up with the calcium-to-phosphorus ratio inverted.
Available in 5kg.
This is a single mineral, not a balanced supplement. Adding calcium without knowing what the rest of the ration supplies can push the ratio the other way and interfere with magnesium and trace mineral uptake. If you have not had the ration assessed, a compounded mineral mix is the safer choice.
Where it is used
- Grain and bran-based horse feeds - to correct the calcium to phosphorus ratio
- Poultry - shell grit and layer ration supplementation
- Home-mixed livestock rations
