A hand-held 50ml canister that releases a short hiss of compressed gas. The sound interrupts a dog mid-behaviour — barking at the door, chasing, jumping up on visitors — which buys you the second you need to redirect it onto something else.
The interruption is not the lesson. On its own the hiss stops a behaviour briefly and teaches nothing; used at the moment the dog breaks off, followed immediately by a cue the dog knows and a reward for doing it, it becomes a genuine training tool. Aim away from the animal, never at the face, and keep the burst short.
When not to use it. A sound-sensitive, anxious or noise-phobic dog is the wrong candidate, and so is a dog whose barking is separation-related — in both cases the hiss adds fear to a problem that is already fear-driven. Puppies, sighthounds and rescue dogs of unknown history deserve a gentler approach first. It is a dog product; it is not for cats.
Supplied as a 50ml canister. From the same manufacturer as Halti headcollars, Coachi training gear and Baskerville muzzles.
Key points
- Short hiss of compressed gas — A sound interrupter, not a spray onto the animal.
- 50ml canister — Hand-sized; keep one where the behaviour happens.
- Pair it with a reward — Interrupt, cue, reward. The interruption alone teaches nothing.
- Not for anxious or noise-sensitive dogs — Or for separation-related barking.
Handling
Pressurised container. Do not pierce or burn, keep out of direct sun and away from heat, and store out of reach of children. Never aim at the face or at close range.
