ProfeLAC Shepherd is the lamb, kid and cria formula in ProviCo's ProfeLAC range — for hand-rearing orphan and poddy lambs, goat kids and alpaca cria. Ewe and doe milk differ from cow's milk in fat and protein, which is why a lamb formula exists rather than everybody just using calf replacer.
Supplied as a 20kg bag. That is a farm quantity: if you are rearing one poddy lamb for a season, you will not get through it, and an opened bag stored through a humid summer will not stay good.
Colostrum first. A newborn lamb or kid needs colostrum within the first hours of life. Milk replacer does not substitute for it, and a lamb that has missed colostrum is at real risk regardless of what you feed afterwards — talk to a vet.
Mixing
Mixing rate, water temperature and feeding frequency are on the bag. Small ruminants are fed more often and in smaller volumes than calves; over-feeding at a single meal is a common cause of bloat and scours in poddy lambs.
