ProfeSTART Electrolyte Powder is ProviCo's oral rehydration product for young stock — mixed with water and given to calves and other young animals losing fluid and salts through scours.
Available in 2kg, 4kg, 10kg and 20kg. The 2kg is a shed pack for occasional use; the larger sizes are for rearing sheds going through a calving season. Buy for the season you will actually use it in — an opened bag of electrolyte powder does not improve sitting through a humid summer.
Electrolytes support a scouring calf. They do not diagnose one. Scours has nutritional, bacterial, viral and parasitic causes and these are managed differently. A calf that is dull, will not stand, has sunken eyes, or is not improving within about a day needs a vet. Scours running through a mob is a herd health problem.
