A sisal scratching post that fixes to the wall rather than standing on the floor. Mounted at the height your cat stretches to, it gives a proper full-body scratch without a footprint in the room — the answer for a flat or a hallway where a cat tree will not fit.
It has to go into something solid. A plasterboard-only fixing will not hold a cat pulling down on it at full stretch, so find a stud or use suitable wall anchors.
Getting a cat to use it
Mount it where the cat already scratches the wall or door frame, at a height they can reach comfortably on their hind legs. Catnip on the sisal helps for the first few days.
Freestanding alternatives: the Ultimate Heavy-Duty post and Bootsie's Combination post.
