The frame is the moulded surround that carries the flap and the locking slide. Replace it if the original has cracked, gone brittle in the sun, or lost the lugs that the latch engages - all of which happen to a door that has been in a north-facing window for years.
Two versions, one for the small cat door and one for the large dog door. Check which door you have before ordering; the two are not interchangeable.
