Hydracel is the upper end of the Value Plus electrolyte range — a powder for racing, endurance, dressage, jumping, eventing and polo horses, fed after work to replace fluid and electrolytes.
Two things separate it from a plain salt mix. Betaine anhydrous is an osmolyte that helps cells hold water rather than simply replacing what was lost from the bloodstream. Palatinose is a slow-release, low-glycaemic carbohydrate, so the energy arrives without the insulin spike a glucose-based product produces — which matters for horses prone to laminitis or metabolic trouble.
It is a performance product. A paddock horse in light work does not need it, and a plain electrolyte liquid will do the job for less.
