Vet's Best Enzymatic Dog Toothpaste is the brand's US-made paste. The word enzymatic is doing real work here: glucose oxidase is an enzyme that reacts with the sugars in saliva to produce a small, continuous antibacterial effect in the mouth, so the paste keeps working for a while after you stop brushing. That is useful, but it is not a substitute for the mechanical part — the bristles physically breaking up plaque is still what does most of the job.
Supplied in a 99g (3.5 oz) tube. Needs no rinsing and is safe to swallow, which is the point for an animal that cannot spit. It contains no fluoride or xylitol — never use human toothpaste on a dog. To buy it with a brush, see the Enzymatic Toothpaste & Toothbrush Kit.
Benefits
- Glucose oxidase enzymes — keep acting on mouth bacteria between brushings.
- Neem oil and grapefruit seed extract — the plant side of the formula.
- Sodium bicarbonate — a mild abrasive that helps lift surface staining.
- No rinse, safe to swallow — apply with a brush or a finger and walk away.
Ingredients
Glycerin, aloe, pectin, neem oil, grapefruit seed extract, sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), glucose oxidase (enzymes), natural flavours.
How to Use
Apply to a brush or fingertip and work along the gum line, two to three times a week or daily. No rinsing. Established tartar will not come off with paste — that needs a vet scale and polish.
