A 2.5kg dry diet listed for ferrets. Ferrets are obligate carnivores with a very short gut: they need a high level of animal protein, a high fat level, and almost no fibre or plant carbohydrate, and they cannot be fed like a dog or a rabbit.

What to look for on any ferret food
- Meat or meat meal as the first ingredients, not grain
- Around 32 to 40 per cent crude protein, largely from animal sources
- Around 18 to 20 per cent fat
- Fibre under about 3 per cent
- Little or no added sugar — ferrets are prone to insulinoma
Feeding a ferret
Ferrets graze many small meals a day and empty their gut in three to four hours, so food should be available constantly rather than fed as set meals. Fresh water at all times, and change any diet gradually — ferrets imprint on food early and a sudden switch can mean a ferret that simply stops eating.
