Getting the most out of them
Rinse in old tank water, never under the tap — chlorine kills the bacterial colony living in the media, which is doing much of the biological filtration. When the media has broken down or the carbon is exhausted, replace rather than rinse. Changing the cartridge and doing a big water change on the same day removes too much of the biological filtration at once; stagger them.
