A small half-log hide, and one of the more genuinely useful things you can put in an enclosure. A reptile without somewhere to disappear is a reptile that is mildly stressed all the time — and a stressed animal eats less, sheds worse and is harder to handle. This is the small size, suiting small lizards, hatchlings, geckos and small mammals.
Benefits
- Enclosed hide — the security a reptile needs to settle.
- Half-log shape — sits flat, low profile, no wasted floor space.
- Doubles as a humid hide — pack damp moss inside to make a moist retreat for shedding.
- Suits small reptiles and small mammals.
Choosing a size
Snug beats spacious. Reptiles feel secure with their body touching the walls, so a hide the animal only just fits into is doing its job better than one it can turn around in. Give a shy animal one hide at the warm end and one at the cool end — otherwise it has to choose between feeling safe and being the right temperature.
