It is a complementary food

This matters enough to say plainly: the Applaws Natural wet range is complementary, not complete. The ingredient list is tiny by design — the named fish or meat, broth, sometimes rice — and that is precisely why it cannot stand alone nutritionally. Applaws says so on the pack: feed it alongside a complete wet or dry food. Used as a topper, a hydration boost, or a way to get a fussy cat eating again, it does a job very few foods do as well.

Choosing between them

Broth recipes are the wettest, which is the point if your cat is a poor drinker — tuna with anchovy, tuna with sea bream, chicken breast with pumpkin. Jelly recipes set around the meat: tuna with mackerel, tuna with salmon, tuna wholemeat. Plain fillets and tins — tuna fillet, chicken breast, ocean fish, and the pairings with prawn, seaweed, crab, salmon or duck — are closest to unadorned fish or meat.

Cats are usually more particular about texture than about protein, so if one recipe is refused, the same protein in a different texture is the sensible next thing to try rather than a whole new flavour.
