With dog grooming supplies, most home grooming problems come down to two things: the wrong brush for the coat, and leaving it too long between sessions. A short-coated dog needs a bristle brush and ten minutes a week. A double coat needs a slicker and an undercoat rake, and needs them often enough that dead hair never gets the chance to felt. A drop coat needs a long pin brush and daily attention, because a day of tangles becomes a week of mats faster than owners expect.
Order of operations matters more than the products. Brush the coat out before the bath — water tightens an existing mat into something that usually has to be cut out. Dilute concentrates properly; professional 1L to 20L sizes are far cheaper per wash than they look, but under-diluting wastes product and leaves residue that itches. Rinse for longer than feels necessary. Then dry and brush together rather than letting the coat air-dry into whatever shape it lands in.
If you are buying clippers, buy blade oil and a cool spray with them. Blades blunt and heat up, and a hot blade is the most common cause of clipper burn.
