Kohnke's Own is an Australian equine nutrition company founded by Dr John Kohnke, formulating and manufacturing horse supplements in New South Wales. The range is built around a few clear jobs rather than one do-everything tub: ration balancers (Cell-Vital, Cell-Provide, Cell-Perform, Cell-Ultimate), targeted supplements for gut, joints, hooves, muscle and coat, electrolytes for temperate and tropical conditions, and a small number of specialist formulas for racing and harness horses.
Where to start — most horses need the ration balanced before anything else. Cell-Vital is the general-purpose balancer; Cell-Provide is the no-added-sugar version for resting, senior and laminitis-prone horses; Cell-Perform suits competition horses that need support without extra energy; Cell-Vital Premium is the racing-strength option. Add a targeted product on top of the balancer only for a specific problem — Gastro-Coat for the stomach, FABBY for the hindgut, Redi-Flex for joints, Reboot HOOF+ for hooves, Mag-E for tension.
Two things worth checking before you buy. Several formulas (Cell-E Premium, E-Se Supplets, Harness Special) carry organic selenium, which has a narrow safe range in horses — add up the total across everything you feed rather than stacking products. And electrolytes are climate-specific: Cell-Salts for normal Australian conditions, Troppo Salts for the northern heat and humidity.
Sizes run from 425g starter packs up to 20kg buckets, so the range works for a single horse or a full yard. Kohnke's Own also makes Donkey Supreme, one of the few Australian supplements formulated for donkeys rather than adapted from a horse product.
