KONG is best known for dogs, but the cat range is built on the same idea: give the cat something to work at rather than something that just sits there. It covers catnip kickers, teaser wands, crinkle and confetti balls, tunnels and play spaces, and the treat-dispensing Kitty KONG feeders.

Cats get bored of toys that stay in one place. The practical approach is to keep a handful out and rotate them weekly rather than leaving everything on the floor, and to keep the wand teasers put away between sessions so they stay interesting and so the cord is never left unsupervised.

KONG uses North American catnip in the kicker and plush lines, which a meaningful share of cats simply do not respond to; the response is inherited, and kittens under about six months usually show nothing at all. If catnip does nothing in your house, the movement-based toys - teaser wands, balls that skitter on hard floors, tunnels - are the better spend.

Treat-dispensing feeders suit cats that eat too fast or need something to do indoors. Fill them with the cat's own dry food rather than extra treats and take that portion out of the daily ration.
