Whistler is an Australian bird food brand that formulates a separate recipe for each type of bird rather than selling one mix to everyone. The range splits into two halves: Gourmet Blends, which are the daily seed base, and everything else, which is a treat. The treats come in a few formats - hang pods and health bars that clip inside the cage, perchers and blocks that the bird stands on and works apart, loose treat mixes in a resealable tub, freeze-dried fruit and vegetable with no seed in it at all, and plain red millet sprays on the stem.
How to choose - start with the Gourmet Blend that matches your bird: budgie, canary and finch, cockatiel and lovebird, small parrot, large parrot, or exotic parrot. That is the daily food. Then pick one treat format to go with it. Hang pods and health bars are the cheapest way to try the brand; perchers and blocks last the longest and suit an aviary or a cage that is left during the day; freeze-dried medleys are the one to buy if you want to add fruit and vegetables without the daily waste of cut fresh produce.
Two things worth knowing before you order. A seed blend on its own is low in calcium and Vitamin A, so keep offering fresh greens and a cuttlebone alongside it. And the perchers and blocks are sold by total weight - a 1.18kg percher is one complete bar including the perch, not a feeding quantity, so do not read the pack weight as a serving size.
Whistler does not publish a typical analysis on its website, so if you need protein and fat figures for a specific product, they are printed on the back of the pack.
