An artificial Boston fern for humid and rainforest terrariums — soft, arching fronds that give dense low cover where a frog, gecko or small skink wants to be out of sight without climbing. The catch with any replica is worth stating plainly: it does not transpire, so it adds nothing to the humidity you have to create some other way; it produces no oxygen; and it will not grow in to fill a gap. What it does instead is stay exactly as it is after being trampled, dug around, misted daily and lit by direct UVB — all the things that kill a live fern in a terrarium within a season.
Two sizes, listed here by height: Small 25cm and Medium 40cm. Exo Terra catalogues them as PT2990 and PT2995 and publishes no spread or pot dimensions, so height is all we can quote. Unlike the four Forest Plants — Croton, Ruscus, Abutilon and Mandarin, which hang — the fern is a standing plant for the floor. Pairs with a Forest Moss Mat, and the rest of the range is in our Exo Terra collection.
Features
- Dense low cover — fronds spread outward at ground level, which is where a terrestrial rainforest species wants to hide.
- Soft foliage — no rigid edges for a thin-skinned amphibian to catch on.
- Unaffected by misting — daily spraying and standing humidity do not rot or mark it.
- Rinses clean — lift out and rinse under a tap when substrate builds up in the fronds.
- Safe in sterile set-ups — usable in quarantine and hospital enclosures where live planting is ruled out.
