A ceramic heat emitter produces infrared heat and no light at all. That is the whole point: it can run 24 hours a day without touching the day and night cycle, and the solid ceramic body copes with humidity that would shorten the life of a glass bulb. It is the right answer for a species that needs warm air overnight, and the wrong one as a lone fixture in a daytime setup, because it contributes nothing to lighting and no UVB. Two things it will not tolerate: a plastic lamp holder, which softens and melts, and running unregulated.
Three wattages — 60W, 100W and 150W. It must go into a ceramic or porcelain fixture such as the Porcelain Wire Clamp Lamp; Exo Terra specifies its own Wire Light fixture for this lamp and states it is not for standard sockets. Pair it with a Day Glo for daylight and a Reptile UVB100 T8 Tube for UVB. More in our Exo Terra collection.
Features
- No visible light — heat without a glow, so nothing interferes with the day and night cycle.
- All input becomes heat — Exo Terra rates it at 100% heat efficiency, with nothing spent on light.
- Long-wave infrared — penetrates scales and skin to warm the animal rather than only the air around it.
- Solid ceramic body — suited to humid enclosures where glass bulbs are more vulnerable.
- Built for continuous use — designed as a round-the-clock heat source and as the warm end of a gradient.
Specifications
60W (PT2045) · 100W (PT2046) · 150W (PT2047). Shipping weights 210g, 240g and 255g. Size it to the gap you are closing rather than to the enclosure alone — 60W for a small enclosure or a few degrees of overnight lift, 100W for a 60cm enclosure in a cool room, 150W for a large enclosure or a room that drops sharply at night. A thermometer at the animal's level is the only way to confirm it.
Safety
Use a ceramic or porcelain socket rated for the wattage — a plastic lamp holder will melt. Always run it through a thermostat: there is no glow to tell you it is on, and an unregulated emitter can cook an enclosure quietly. Fit a guard so the animal cannot contact it, and remember the ceramic stays dangerously hot for several minutes after switch-off.
