The Mandarin is one of four hanging plants in Exo Terra's Forest Plant range, all built the same way — a suction-mounted artificial plant that hangs against the glass or from the top of the terrarium, so the cover sits at the height an arboreal animal actually uses rather than on the floor. The trade against live planting is the usual one and worth being straight about: a replica takes no part in the humidity cycle, releases no oxygen and never grows in. What it does is hold its shape in a spot where a live plant would be dislodged, shaded out or scorched, and come clean under a tap when it is soiled.
Two sizes here, Small and Medium; Exo Terra also catalogues a Large that we do not stock. The four Forest Plants differ in leaf shape and colour rather than in function — the others are Croton, Ruscus and Abutilon — so pick by look, and check the photographs rather than the name. For a standing plant at floor level see the Boston Fern; the rest of the range is in our Exo Terra collection.
Features
- Hangs rather than stands — puts cover at mid and upper height, where a floor-standing plant cannot reach.
- Nothing to maintain — no watering, no light requirement, nothing to die back between checks.
- Rinses clean — unclip, rinse under a tap, put it back.
- Safe in sterile set-ups — Exo Terra's stated use is quarantine terrariums and spots where live plants cannot survive.
- Mixes with live planting — designed to fill the gaps in a planted terrarium, not only to replace one.
Specifications
Sizes Small (PT3002) and Medium (PT3012). Shipping weights 0.055kg and 0.09kg. Exo Terra does not publish height, spread or drop measurements for the Forest Plant range and our supplier lists these two only as Small and Medium, so we have left the dimensions blank rather than estimate them.
