Heat Glo is Exo Terra's infrared reflector lamp — a red-glass bulb with the reflector built into the envelope, so the infrared-A heat lands on the spot you aim it at instead of spreading through the whole terrarium. The red light is dim enough that it does not break the day and night cycle, which is why it is the usual answer for a species that still needs warmth after dark. It is a heat source and nothing more: no UVB, and nowhere near enough visible light to serve as daytime lighting, so it works alongside a day lamp rather than replacing one.
Five wattages — 25W, 50W, 75W, 100W and 150W. Run it with Day Glo or the Intense Basking Spot for the daylight half of the cycle, add UVB from something like the Reptile UVB100 T8 Tube, and see the rest of the range in our Exo Terra collection.
Features
- Infrared-A through red glass — the coloured glass passes heat radiation efficiently while keeping visible output low.
- Built-in reflector — concentrates the heat into a beam you can point at a basking branch or rock.
- 24-hour heat source — the reddish light suits nocturnal viewing and lets the lamp run continuously where night temperatures need propping up.
- Raises ambient air temperature — builds the warm end of a thermal gradient rather than heating the enclosure evenly.
- Small UVA component — Exo Terra rates the lamp as emitting a small portion of UVA for physiological well-being.
Specifications
25W (PT2143, the NANO format for compact fixtures) · 50W (PT2141) · 75W (PT2142) · 100W (PT2144) · 150W (PT2146). Shipping weights run 35g to 100g. As a starting point rather than a rule, 25–50W suits a nano or 45cm enclosure, 75–100W a 60cm one, and 150W a 90cm enclosure or a cold room. The real inputs are enclosure volume, how far the room drops overnight and the basking temperature your species needs, so settle the wattage by thermometer readings taken at the basking surface.
Safety
Every lamp in this range should run through a thermostat or dimmer. Plugged straight into the wall a bulb puts out full heat regardless of what the room is doing, and contact burns and overheating are the common outcome. Keep the lamp outside the mesh or behind a guard so the animal cannot reach the glass.
