The Intense Basking Spot is the tight-beam lamp in the range. Exo Terra rates it as putting 35% more light and heat into the beam than a standard basking spot, which lets you mount it further from the basking site and still reach target temperature — useful in a tall enclosure or above a mesh top that eats some of the output. The trade-off is a small, very hot patch: in a shallow or short enclosure the animal cannot get far enough away from it, and a 150W over a 45cm terrarium is a burn waiting to happen. There is no UVB.
Four wattages — 50W, 75W, 100W and 150W. Cover the night side with Heat Glo or Night Glo, and add UVB with the Reptile UVB100 T8 Tube. The rest of the range is in our Exo Terra collection.
Features
- 35% more light and heat in the beam — Exo Terra's rating against a standard basking spot, which is what buys you the extra mounting distance.
- Tight, aimable beam — creates a defined basking site on a branch or rock rather than warming the whole enclosure.
- Raises ambient air temperature — the beam anchors the warm end of a gradient the animal can move along.
- UVA output — Exo Terra credits the UVA with stimulating activity and breeding behaviour.
- Infrared-A heat — penetrating warmth rather than heat that only sits in the air.
Specifications
50W (PT2135) · 75W (PT2136) · 100W (PT2138) · 150W (PT2140). Shipping weights 45g to 90g. Pick the wattage from the distance between lamp and basking surface as much as from enclosure volume — a 50W at 20cm and a 100W at 30cm can land on the same surface temperature. Start low, measure at the basking surface with a thermometer, and raise the wattage or lower the fixture from there.
Safety
A concentrated beam is exactly the case where a thermostat or dimmer matters most; unregulated, this lamp will hold full output whatever the room is doing. Mount it outside the mesh or behind a guard, and give the enclosure enough length that the animal can leave the beam entirely.
