Apple cider vinegar at 4% acidity is a feed-room staple sold in bulk rather than in a boutique bottle. It goes into feeds, coat rinses, water troughs and general washing-down work, and it is one of the few things where the drum is genuinely the sensible purchase.
Available in 5L and 20L.
This is standard 4% acidity vinegar - it is not raw, unfiltered or 'with the mother', and it is not a medicine. Claims made for cider vinegar in horses are mostly traditional rather than tested, so buy it for what it demonstrably does - it is acidic, it is cheap, and horses will drink it in water. Introduce it to feed slowly; a sudden sour feed gets refused.
Common uses
- In feed or water - introduced gradually and diluted
- Coat rinse - diluted, after shampooing, to strip soap residue and flatten the coat
- Poultry drinking water - at low dilution, an old poultry-keeper practice
Vinegar is corrosive to galvanised metal over time. Use plastic or stainless containers, not galvanised troughs.
