Glycerine is a clear, sweet, syrupy liquid that turns up all over a stable - as a palatability aid and moisture-holder in feed, as the base of glycerine leather soap, and as an ingredient in home-made hoof and skin preparations.
Available in 1L and 5L.
It is hygroscopic, which is the whole point of it and also its limitation: it draws and holds moisture, so it softens leather and skin but will keep a wet environment wet. Do not use it on a hoof or a wound that needs to dry out. Buy it for a specific job rather than as a general treatment.
Common uses
- Feed - a small amount binds dust and improves palatability
- Leather - the base of traditional glycerine saddle soap
- Mixing base - for home-made dressings and pastes
