Ascorbic acid in bulk powder form. Healthy horses make their own vitamin C, so this is not a routine daily supplement - it is fed to horses where synthesis or demand is out of balance: older horses, horses under sustained stress, horses in hard work, and horses with ongoing respiratory issues.
Available in 1kg.
Because horses synthesise vitamin C, feeding it to a horse that does not need it achieves nothing and simply passes through. It is also worth knowing that long-term supplementation can down-regulate the horse's own production, so it is a targeted, time-limited supplement rather than a permanent addition. Talk to your vet about whether it is warranted.
Notes
- Ascorbic acid is acidic and unstable - store sealed, dry and out of light
- Mix into a damp feed; it is sour and can be refused dry
- Check competition rules for your discipline before feeding
