Frontline is a fipronil-based range in two formats: Frontline Plus, a spot-on applied between the shoulder blades, and Frontline Spray, pumped over the whole coat. The application intervals are the part people get wrong, and they are not the same across the range - read the section for the product you are buying.
Frontline Plus for Dogs
Sized by weight: up to 10kg (Orange), 10-20kg (Blue), 20-40kg (Purple) and 40-60kg (Red). It protects against fleas and ticks, including paralysis ticks; kills fleas on the dog plus flea eggs and larvae in the environment; controls flea allergy dermatitis; controls biting lice; and aids in the control of sarcoptic mange. The tick intervals differ by tick. Apply every two weeks for protection against paralysis ticks, and monthly for protection against brown dog tick. Dosing monthly in a paralysis tick area is not what the label says. Puppies from 8 weeks of age. It is waterfast, but the dog must be completely dry before applying and must not be wetted for 48 hours afterwards.
Frontline Plus for Cats
The cat product is a different claim set, not a smaller dog pack. It is for protection against fleas - it carries no tick claim. It kills fleas on the cat plus flea eggs and larvae in the environment, controls flea allergy dermatitis, and treats and prevents biting lice. Kittens from 8 weeks of age. The waterfast wait after application is 24 hours for cats, not the 48 hours quoted for dogs.
Frontline Spray
The spray suits very young animals - it can be used on puppies and kittens from 2 days of age - and covers both species. It has three separate intervals: for adult fleas, every 12 weeks for dogs and every 8 weeks for cats; for paralysis ticks, every 3 weeks for dogs and cats; and for brown dog ticks, monthly. Expect fleas to become hyperactive and more visible before dying - that is fipronil working, not a failure. DO NOT USE ON RABBITS. Stocked in 100ml and 250ml.
