ParaGard is a liver flavoured intestinal wormer in two separate formulations - one for dogs, one for cats and kittens. The tablet can be given with or without food, and it is safe to use in puppies and kittens from 2 weeks of age, which is younger than most of the products it sits alongside.
The dose is a rate, not a pack size
This is the thing to get right before ordering. ParaGard for dogs is dosed at 1 tablet per 5kg, 1 tablet per 10kg or 1 tablet per 20kg of bodyweight depending on which tablet you buy - Small (Blue), Medium (Green) or Large (Red). The names describe the tablet strength, not a dog size limit. A 20kg dog is correctly dosed with four Small tablets or one Large tablet, so a 4 pack of Small is a single dose for that dog and four doses for a 5kg dog. Work out how many tablets one dose takes before you decide which pack is the right buy. The cat and kitten tablet (Purple) is dosed at 1 tablet per 5kg.
Dog and cat cover is not the same
The dog tablet treats and controls roundworm, hookworm, whipworm and tapeworm, including hydatids. The cat and kitten tablet treats and controls roundworm, hookworm and tapeworm - there is no whipworm claim and no hydatid claim on the cat product. Do not read one spectrum onto the other.
What it does not cover
ParaGard is an intestinal wormer only. It has no flea, tick or heartworm claim, so it is a partner to a flea and tick product rather than a replacement for one. It is also the type of product to reach for when a flea-control product prevents new flea tapeworm infestations but an existing one still needs treating. Stocked in 4 pack, 3 pack for the Large dog tablet, and a 100 pack for multi-pet and breeder households.
See product label for full claim details and directions for use.
