Royal Canin Cavalier King Charles Spaniel food covers both life stages we stock: the adult dry food in 3kg and 7.5kg bags, and Cavalier King Charles Puppy in 1.5kg. Both are formulated for this breed specifically, not for a general small-dog size band.
Two things explain why a Cavalier gets its own bag. First, the breed carries a well-known predisposition to heart conditions, so both formulas are built around taurine, the omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA, L-carnitine and antioxidants to help support healthy cardiac function. Second, the coat: long, silky and feathered, it needs EPA, DHA and borage oil to stay in condition, and the adult formula is enriched with exactly that. The kibble is shaped and textured so a short-muzzled dog can pick it up cleanly and is encouraged to chew rather than bolt its food.
Switch from puppy to adult at around 10 months — earlier than the 12 months most breeds use, so it is easy to leave a Cavalier on puppy food too long. Cavaliers are enthusiastic eaters and gain weight easily, so the adult formula runs an adapted calorie content; weigh meals on scales rather than using a scoop, and count treats into the daily total. Between the two adult bags, 3kg suits a single Cavalier and stays fresh to the bottom; 7.5kg suits multi-dog homes or anyone who can keep it sealed and cool. The puppy bag also contains calcium chelators to help reduce tartar forming on new adult teeth, which matters in a small, crowded mouth.
