Royal Canin Cocker Spaniel dry dog food is stocked in both stages: Cocker Spaniel Adult in 3kg and 12kg bags, and Cocker Spaniel Puppy in 3kg. Both are purebred-specific formulas rather than a general medium-breed food.
What sets the Cocker apart is the head. Long, low-set, heavily feathered ears sit flat against the skin and get very little airflow, and the breed's wavy coat and sensitive skin need support from the inside. Both formulas are built around an exclusive complex of nutrients with borage oil, vitamin A and the omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA to help support the skin's barrier role and keep the coat in condition. That is daily nutrition, not a treatment — if an ear is already hot, sore or smelly, that is a vet visit — but skin-barrier nutrition is the part you control every day, alongside actually checking and drying under those ears.
The second watch-point is weight. Today's Cocker Spaniel lives a far more sedentary life than the working dog it descends from and will happily overeat, so the adult formula runs a controlled fat content to help limit daily energy intake. It also includes antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids for heart muscle health, and calcium chelators to help reduce tartar. Move from puppy to adult at 12 months. On bag size, 3kg suits one Cocker and keeps well; 12kg makes sense if you are feeding more than one dog or can seal it properly, since the fats in a skin-and-coat formula are the first thing to suffer once air gets in.
