Royal Canin Pug dry dog food is stocked as Pug Adult in 3kg and 7.5kg bags, and Pug Puppy in 500g and 1.5kg. Both are shaped, quite literally, around a face that makes eating harder than it looks.
The Pug is brachycephalic: flat face, short jaw, thick lips. Ordinary kibble gets pushed around the bowl and scooped awkwardly, so Royal Canin designs this kibble specifically to be easier for a Pug to pick up and to encourage chewing rather than swallowing whole. The breed's other structural quirk is its densely folded skin, which holds warmth and moisture against itself; both formulas support the skin's barrier role with borage oil, EPA and DHA from fish oil, and targeted vitamins. Again, that is daily nutrition — it does not replace keeping the folds clean and dry.
Weight is the third issue and arguably the biggest one. Pugs put on condition very easily, and extra kilos on a flat-faced dog make breathing and heat tolerance noticeably worse through an Australian summer. The adult formula sets an optimal protein content to help maintain muscle tone while helping the dog hold its ideal weight — but a formula only works if the portion does, so weigh meals and be honest about treats. Feed Pug Puppy up to 10 months, then switch to Pug Adult. The 500g puppy bag is handy for the first weeks home or for travel; 1.5kg is the normal buy. For adults, 3kg is the everyday size and 7.5kg suits multi-dog homes or a longer run between orders.
