Royal Canin Chihuahua dry dog food and pouches — three products in all: Chihuahua Adult dry food in 1.5kg, Chihuahua Puppy in 500g and 1.5kg, and Chihuahua Adult loaf in 85g pouches. It is the most complete toy-breed line we stock, which counts for a lot when a dog eats in such small amounts.

Two breed traits drive the formula. The first is appetite: Chihuahuas are famously fussy, so the recipe leans on an adapted kibble size and shape, an exclusive formulation and selected flavours to keep a picky dog eating. The second is the mouth. A Chihuahua's teeth are crowded into one of the smallest jaws in the dog world, which makes tartar build-up a genuine risk, so the adult food contains calcium chelators that help slow tartar forming. The kibble is made very small for the same reason — it has to be pickable and chewable by that jaw.

Choosing between them: feed Chihuahua Puppy up to 8 months, then move to Chihuahua Adult. The 500g puppy bag exists for a practical reason — a Chihuahua pup eats so little that a big bag can go stale before it is finished, so buy small and buy often. For adults, 1.5kg is the only dry size, and the loaf pouches are the answer if your dog stalls on dry food: the soft texture suits a miniature jaw, and pouches come in packs of 12 and 48. Mixed feeding, part dry and part pouch, is the usual compromise for a fussy eater — just weigh both parts so the daily total still adds up.
