Royal Canin Dachshund

Royal Canin Dachshund food covers three products at PeekAPaw: a dry adult formula, a dry puppy formula, and a wet loaf for mixed feeding. If you have been looking at the single Dachshund Puppy bag and were not sure whether it was the right one, this page is the comparison.
Which one does your dog need? The Dachshund range changes over at 10 months — noticeably earlier than the large breeds, which run to 15 months, because small dogs finish growing sooner. Dachshund Puppy is for dogs up to 10 months and comes in 1.5kg only. Dachshund Adult is for dogs over 10 months and comes in 1.5kg and 7.5kg. For most single-dog households the 1.5kg bag is finished at a reasonable rate; the 7.5kg is worth it if you have two Dachshunds or feed dry as the main diet.
Why breed-specific for this dog? The teckel's long back and short legs put a real load on the spine, and carrying extra weight makes that worse. The formula works on it from two directions: an adapted calcium and phosphorus content to help support bones and joints, and a make-up that helps maintain muscle tone while keeping an ideal weight. Two extras matter day to day — the kibble includes calcium chelators to help reduce tartar formation, and the formula is designed to help reduce the smell and volume of stools.
Wet food and pack sizes. Dachshund Adult in Loaf comes in 85g pouches in packs of 12 or 48. The loaf texture is there for palatability, so it is a good lever with a fussy eater. Buy the 12-pack to see whether your dog takes to it; move to the 48-pack once you know it is a keeper.
