Royal Canin French Bulldog food comes in two formulas at PeekAPaw — puppy and adult — and the changeover is at 12 months. French Bulldog Puppy covers growth up to 12 months in a 3kg bag; French Bulldog Adult takes over from 12 months and comes in 3kg and 9kg. For most single-Frenchie households the 3kg adult bag is the sensible buy, with the 9kg making sense once you know your dog is settled on it.

Why breed-specific for this dog? Three things about a Frenchie make a generic kibble a poor fit. First, the jaw: the breed is brachycephalic, or flat-faced, and picking food up off a hard bowl is genuinely awkward. Both formulas use a kibble exclusively designed to make it easier for a French Bulldog to pick up and to encourage chewing rather than swallowing whole. Second, wind. Weight matters here. The French Bulldog is compact and heavy for its frame, so extra kilos press on joints and on breathing.
