Royal Canin Rottweiler dry dog food comes in two bags, and the only real question is which one your dog should be on. Rottweiler Puppy is for dogs up to 18 months; Rottweiler Adult takes over from 19 months. Both come as a single 12kg bag — this is a big dog with a big appetite, and there is no small size in either formula.
Eighteen months sounds late, and it is deliberate. The Rottweiler is a heavy, slow-maturing breed whose skeleton is still finishing long after a medium-sized dog has stopped growing. The puppy formula runs an adapted protein content with controlled calcium and phosphorus, plus L-carnitine, to support muscle and bone development without pushing growth along too fast. Moving a Rottweiler onto adult food at twelve months — the habit most owners bring across from smaller breeds — cuts that support short. If your dog is somewhere between 12 and 18 months, stay on the puppy bag.
The adult formula shifts the emphasis onto the two things that most limit a Rottweiler's working life: the heart and the joints. It carries taurine plus EPA and DHA from fish oil to help support heart muscle health, and glucosamine, chondroitin, EPA and DHA to help support the bones and joints carrying that frame. Protein is set to help maintain the breed's muscle mass rather than add weight. The kibble on both bags is designed to be easy for a Rottweiler to pick up and to encourage proper chewing instead of gulping. One practical note: a 12kg bag takes a while to get through, so keep it sealed, off the floor and out of direct sun.
