Every terrarium needs at least two hides — one in the cool zone, one in the warm zone — so the animal can pick a temperature without giving up cover. Without that, reptiles sit in a constant low-grade stress state and it shows in appetite and shedding. The Buffalo Skull is the flattest hide in Exo Terra's skull range: a bleached bovine skull with horns sweeping wide to either side, so its footprint is considerably wider than the cavity underneath it.
Two sizes. The Small (PT2925) measures 7.6 x 11.8 x 5cm — only 5cm tall, which is the point. Animals that lie flat and like their backs touching the roof settle into it readily; leopard geckos, small skinks and juveniles are the natural fit. If your animal needs headroom, the domed Primate Skull is the better shape, and for a long-bodied animal the T-Rex Skull is the tunnel version. It holds no water, so pair it with a water dish. Full range in our Exo Terra collection.
Features
- Low clearance — the flattest of the four skulls, which is what a ground-hugging gecko or skink prefers.
- Horns give a wide stance — the spread makes it hard to tip, but plan for a footprint wider than the hide itself.
- Multiple entrances — access at more than one point, so the animal is not backed into a dead end.
- Takes damp moss — the shallow cavity holds moisture well for shedding.
- Non-porous resin — rated for desert, rainforest and aquatic terrariums.
Specifications
Small (PT2925): 7.6 x 11.8 x 5cm, shipping weight 65g. Medium (PT2857): Exo Terra does not publish dimensions for this size; shipping weight is 440g, so it is a substantially larger casting than the Small rather than a step up in one dimension.
Care
Scrub under hot running water with a terrarium-only brush and let it dry fully. No detergents or disinfectants unless every trace can be rinsed away.
