A reptile with nowhere to hide never fully settles — it stays alert, feeds less and sheds badly — so a terrarium normally wants two hides, one at the cool end and one over the warm end, letting the animal pick a temperature without giving up cover. The T-Rex Skull is the narrow one in Exo Terra's skull range: long front-to-back, tight across the width, with the entrance at the back of the skull and openings through the jaw. Functionally it is a tunnel with a theme.
Two sizes. The Small (PT2860) is 7 x 15.1 x 6.2cm — more than twice as deep as it is wide, which tells you what it is for: long-bodied animals that thread in rather than sit down. Hatchling and juvenile snakes, small skinks and geckos use it well; a broad-bodied lizard will not fit through the opening, and for those the domed Primate Skull or the wide Buffalo Skull are better shapes. The Large (PT2859) scales the same casting up. It holds no water, so keep a water dish in the enclosure. Whole range in our Exo Terra collection.
Features
- Long, narrow cavity — the closest thing in the skull range to a burrow, which is what a snake settles into.
- Multiple entrances — openings at the back of the skull and through the jaw, so the animal has a second way out.
- Holds a moist microclimate — Exo Terra rates the enclosed interior for humidity, which helps a snake shed in one piece.
- Fossil-bone finish — pale, weathered casting that reads as bone in a desert or bioactive layout.
- Non-porous resin — rated for desert, rainforest and aquatic terrariums.
Specifications
Small (PT2860): 7 x 15.1 x 6.2cm, shipping weight 90g. Large (PT2859): Exo Terra does not publish dimensions for this size; shipping weight is 430g, so it is a far heavier casting rather than a slightly longer one. Holds no water.
Care
Scrub under hot running water with a brush kept for the terrarium — the long cavity traps substrate, so push the brush right through rather than only rinsing the ends. Skip detergents and disinfectants unless every trace can be rinsed off.
