Royal Canin Miniature Schnauzer
Royal Canin Miniature Schnauzer is breed-specific dry food, made in a kibble shape designed for the Miniature Schnauzer and carrying calcium chelators that help limit tartar forming on the teeth. We stock the adult formula in 3kg and 7.5kg bags, and Miniature Schnauzer Puppy in 1.5kg.
The adult food is for dogs over 10 months. Royal Canin formulates it with a moderate fat content to help the dog hold its ideal weight, includes fish oil and borage oil, and adds amino acids intended to help maintain the depth of coat colour — worth having on a salt-and-pepper or solid black coat that tends to fade with age. There is a urinary component as well: the formula is adapted to support a healthy urinary system and to encourage the dog to drink more water.
Something to raise with your vet before you buy. The Miniature Schnauzer is one of the breeds most often associated with raised blood fats, and dogs with that tendency are normally managed on a fat level the vet sets. A retail food with moderate fat is not a treatment for it. If your Schnauzer has had a pancreatitis episode, or your vet has mentioned triglycerides, ask what fat level they want before you change diets — we do not stock the Royal Canin Veterinary Diet prescription range, so a therapeutic diet has to come from your clinic.
On timing: move from the puppy bag to the adult bag at around 10 months rather than at a set weight, and make the change across a week by mixing an increasing share of the new food in each day. Schnauzers are enthusiastic eaters, so weigh the food rather than eyeballing it, and take the 7.5kg bag only once you know the dog will eat it.
